A momentous occasion to celebrate, this blend marks the 50th iteration of Red Brick! A favourite to so many, our Red Brick espresso blend was created to be the favourite cup of cafes and coffee-loving household alike. Fruity, sweet and versatile, Red Brick reliably offers a deliciously balanced shot that shines as an espresso, dilutes well as an americano and is delightful as a milk-based coffee. A wonderful platform to showcase fantastic producers and origins from, Red Brick encapsulates everything we like about speciality coffee.
To celebrate 50, we brought together a seasonal Red Brick legend Puente Tarrazu from Costa Rica and new kid on the block, Los Ancestros from Guatemala.
As long-standing collaborators and friends, Puente Tarrazu earned a spot on our regular supplier list through their innovation and dedication to quality and community. Located on the outskirts of Santa Cruz de Leon Cortez in Costa Rica, Rodolfo Rivera heads up a mill together with six other producers milling for themselves as well as surrounding smallholders. A close-knit community, family and friends all work together over the busiest periods to get the coffee hand-sorted and perfectly prepared for export. We always look forward to hearing about their latest developments and tasting their best lots. This year, they’ve put forward a white honey processed lot making for a silky sweet cup with its almond and caramel notes perfectly balanced by the bright, fruity yum of Los Ancestros.
Wonderfully diverse, sweet, creamy and complex Los Ancestros from Huehuetenango is a newcomer to Red Brick. One of our favourite Guatemalan coffee-producing regions we worked closely with our import partners Caravela to source this wonder. Marked by a rich history of ancient civilisations, the landscape of Huehuetenango is punctuated with beautiful temples and ancient ruins. Grown on the hills surrounding the Mayan archaeological site Zaculeu, Los Ancestros is a community blend from 13 coffee producers paying homage to all those who were there before them. Renowned for being innovative and quick to adapt to new systems, varieties and processes, the coffee growers of this region are known for the consistent cup quality they achieve. Adding fresh pear notes while adding to the almond sweetness, we could not think of a better way to celebrate 50!
Here is to Red Brick! We look forward to seeing what the next 50 iterations will bring. Enjoy!
