Located in the beautiful village-like setting of Bellenden Road in South East London is our long time customer and family run cafe Anderson and Co. Starting with great street frontage opening to a lovely space and long bar at the front. Walking through the space leads to a seemingly more formal dining space by the kitchen and then on to a large courtyard, sunny on a crisp winter morning (doubtless in the summer it would be hard to secure a seat!). The walls are lined with well stocked shelves of imported and local artisan treats. There’s a very healthy bread selection with offerings from Brick House (another local customer), Blackbird Bakery and the Celtic Bakers, as well as tasty looking in-house baked sausage rolls, which we recommend not missing.
The bacon and scrambled eggs recommended to me from the friendly staff members seems a simple dish, but when using the local fare as they do here, it is one of the tastiest versions of bacon and eggs to be had in this city. Perfectly crispy bacon rashers along with a creamy and deliciously seasoned scramble on top of sourdough bread is a perfect start to any morning. Best to finish everything off with a very well brewed shot of Red Brick espresso, from their Linea Classic and Mythos One setup. Do visit in the evening soon for their dinner offerings, with some delicious wines of course.
It doesn’t get more local than this as a spot, especially in a city like London where local can feel like a very foreign concept. It sits within a row of 20 or so shops – all local businesses – and everyone who came through the door had an already established rapport with both the staff and fellow customers. This feels like a place you could sit at the window of, and watch the people move along the pavement slowly all day long. This part of South London has something the rest doesn’t, and that its lack of high rise apartments. This means the skyline isn’t dominated by towers, and makes this part of Peckham seem like a village. Anderson and Co is where the local villagers go for delicious coffee and food.
